Delhi Customs on Wednesday detained two persons at Delhi airport in connection with a gold smuggling case. One of the detainees, Shiv Kumar Prasad, claimed to be a personal assistant to Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, ANI reported.
Customs officials recovered a total of 500 grams of gold from their possession.
Tharoor, the incumbent MP, is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the Thiruvananthapuram constituency, which went to polls on April 26th. BJP has fielded Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar from the seat.
Chandrasekhar sharply criticised Tharoor, saying, "First CM Secy involved in Gold smuggling. Now Cong MP 'aide'/PA detained for Gold smuggling. CPM and Cong - both INDI alliance partners - alliance of gold smuggler."
