Analyzing Work Safety Measures: How Can Companies Prevent Tragic Accidents Like the Bengaluru IT Firm CEO's Volvo Crash?

"How Can CEOs Prioritize Safety and Avoid Disasters on the Road?"

BENGALURU: Nelamangala traffic police, investigating the freak accident that claimed six lives Saturday, said the container truck that toppled on the victims' SUV was carrying 26 tonnes of metal.

If the truck was empty or carrying anything of less weight, those in the SUV would have survived, a senior police officer said. Police also found that the road is slightly inclined at the spot. "If any driver is careless, there is a possibility of an accident at that spot. An accident had happened at the same spot in May 2023," he added.

The bodies of all six deceased people — Chandram Yegapagol T, 43, his wife Goura Bai, 42, son Gyan Y, 16, daughter Deeksha Y, 10, sister-in-law Vijayalakshmi, 36, and her only daughter Arya, 6, all residents of CSB Layout in Kasavanahalli and from Morbagi village in Sangli district, Maharashtra — were handed over to the family after post-mortem at Nelamangala govt hospital Saturday night.

According to complainant Dr Mallinatha Takkaliki, his wife, daughter, and his elder brother's family were travelling in the SUV from Bengaluru to Morbagi when the accident happened.

Nelamangala traffic police have registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 106 (causing death by negligence).

The police officer said container truck driver Arif has sustained a fracture in his leg and is due to undergo surgery Monday. "Once he recovers from the injuries, we will proceed with the arrest procedure," the officer added.

The last rites of all the six dead were performed at their village Sunday.
