Arrest of Bengaluru Blast Accused in Bengal Triggers BJP-TMC Clash

The arrest of two Rameshwaram Cafe blast suspects from Digha in West Bengal triggered a political slugfest on Friday with BJP's IT cell chief Amit Malviya stating on X that under CM Mamata Banerjee, Bengal has become a "safe haven for terrorists" and TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh countering him by posting: "We all know which family and BJP's main leader runs illegal activities from Contai."

New Digha hotel, from where the two suspects were arrested, is part of Contai Lok Sabha constituency represented by BJP neta Suvendu Adhikari's father Sisir Adhikari. Suvendu's brother Soumendu is the BJP candidate from Contai this time.

Reacting to his name being dragged into the case, Suvendu said: "Bengal is now a free zone for international criminal militants to operate. This has been proven time and again."

At a rally in Coochbehar's Dinhata, Mamata said that the duo's arrest "within two hours" of Bengal police getting first intimation was proof of its efficiency.

Her statement came ahead of NIA's stating that a joint raid was conducted with Bengal police and the latter "responded promptly" to the agency's "request", leading to "a successful culmination" of the operation.

Responding to Malviya's assertion that the suspects were nabbed by NIA, Bengal police said on X: "Falsehood at its worst! The... two suspects have been arrested in a JOINT operation..."
