Spanish national was allegedly gangraped in Jharkhand’s Dumka on Friday night after she and her partner stopped in the area while on a biking trip, officials said. Three suspects have been detained in connection with the case.
According to sources, the couple were going towards Bhagalpur via Dumka, and had put up a tent around midnight at a desolate area near Dumka’s Hansdiha market.
A gang of people found them there, assaulted them and gangraped the woman, sources said. After the incident, the woman, who officials said was around 35 years old, stopped a police patrol vehicle and informed them of the incident.
At around 10 pm on Friday night, police took her to the nearby hospital, sources said.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Dumka District Civil Surgeon B P Singh said, “I was informed by SDO Sadar of an alleged gangrape with the woman (who was brought to the hospital) and the medico-legal process is ongoing. Her statement is being recorded and the police are in the process of registering an FIR. The doctor conducting the checks said that her age is around 35 years.
