Border Politics: Impact on Ruined Temple Repair


Srinagar: Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) authorities begin to repair damaged boundary wall of Shardha Peeth a day after Home Minister Amit Shah said “PoK Hamara Hai”.

Kashmiri Pandits had also raised the issue of Shardha Peeth with the PoK Civil administration and now after the authorities have stated repairing the damaged boundary wall of Shardha Peeth


situated in Neelam Valley of PoK, is an ancient temple and used to be highest seat of learning in ancient times. Dedicated to the Hindu goddess of learning, the 5,000-year-old Sharda Peeth is an abandoned temple and ancient centre of learning.

Established in 237 BC during the reign of Ashoka, the ancient temple was one of the foremost temple universities of the Indian subcontinent between the 6th and 12th centuries CE. It is among the three famous holy sites for Kashmiri Pandits, the other two being the Martand Sun Temple in Anantnag and the Amarnath temple.

The temple has been built on the banks of the Kishanganga river along the LoC, which divides the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is located in Neelam Valley across the LoC in PoK.
