Maharaja Box Office Collection China Day 3: Vijay Sethupathi's film Maharaja has been doing exceptionally well at the Chinese box office ever since its arrival with previews. Following its successful first run, the movie is receiving an amazing reception in its second phase of release. In fact, the Maharaja's Chinese box office receipts alone have a good chance of surpassing its initial worldwide total
The Nithilan Saminathan-directed film had its debut in China on November 23 with a few preview screenings. The earnings began at 1.09 crores and concluded with 5.41 crores. Maharaja had its official release on November 29 and got off to a strong start with 4.57 crores.
Maharaja's earnings witnessed a dip on day 3 as compared to Saturday, although this was to be expected as Sunday night occupancies often decline. With 7.50 crores coming in, it represents a 22.58% decrease from day 2. After three days at the Chinese box office (including previews), the total revenue reaches 27 crores (around $3.2 million), as per sacnilk.
Following a diplomatic agreement between the two countries to reduce tensions along the LAC in Ladakh, Maharaja became the first Indian film to be shown in China, according to PTI. Indian movies such as Dangal, Secret Superstar, Hindi Medium, 3 Idiots, and Baahubali 2 have previously performed well in China.
As per sacnilk, Maharaja has become the 15th highest-grossing Indian movie in China (in terms of dollars) while in Indian currency, it has become the 13th biggest grosser there by beating Drishyam (27 crore gross), Kaabil (23.50 crores gross), and 102 Not Out (22.50 crores gross).
Like Dangal, Secret Superstar, or Andhadhun, it was anticipated to be a huge surprise in China given the critical acclaim during its initial run. Due to their powerful substance, all of these movies made an incredible amount of money in China, much exceeding their Indian box office receipts.
In its first three days at the Chinese box office, Dangal brought in 87.58 crores. On the other hand, the Vijay Sethupathi starrer grossed 26.32 crores (including previews), which is 69.94% less. Even if Maharaja is doing well, it might not be able to reach the 200 or 300-crore mark.
Vijay portrays Maharaja, a gentle-spoken barber who goes to the police station to report his missing trashcan, 'Lakshmi.' Although the police initially dismiss him and don't take him seriously, something darker is revealed when he refuses to leave until the matter is solved.
