After Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal accused the Election Commission of 'biased' and 'unprofessional' behaviour in handling election-related issues, the poll watchdog said that there is a constant attempt to 'malign' the image of the Election Commission of India (ECI) by deliberately applying pressure tactics. The EC further noted that the ECI is not a single-member body and it functions under a strict constitutional remit. "The 3-member Commission collectively noted repeated deliberate pressure tactics to malign ECI in Delhi Elections, as if it is a single member body & decided to have constitutional restraint, absorbing such outbursts with sagacity, stoically & not to be swayed by such insinuations," EC tweeted.
"Action on issues raised by political parties & candidates are taken in each instance by over 1.5 lakh officials in #DelhiAssemblyElection2025 who are functioning within established legal framework, robust processes & SoPs ensuring fair play&non partisan conduct," the poll body further said.
What Did Arvind Kejriwal Say?
Hours after Delhi Police registered a case of 'disobedience' against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) boss Arvind Kejriwal levied serious charges against the Election Commission of India (ECI), stating that the poll body is protecting the wrongdoing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In a post on X, Kejriwal said, "In response to a complaint about the growing hooliganism, the Election Commission has filed a police case against the Chief Minister of Delhi. So now, the official stance of the Delhi Police and the Election Commission is that the 'work' of the Delhi Police and the Election Commission is to engage in hooliganism against the Aam Aadmi Party, provide protection to the BJP's hooliganism, and distribute liquor, money, and goods."
"If anyone tries to stop them from doing this 'work,' a case will be filed against that person for obstructing the 'work' of the police and the Election Commission," Kejriwal added
'Conspiracy Between AAP and BJP'
The Congress candidate from the Kalkaji Assembly seat weighed in, accusing the BJP and AAP of fighting for "power and greed." "This is a conspiracy between AAP and the BJP. Both of them want to divert attention from the issue. Their fight is for power and greed. Now, Delhi will not get entangled in your fights and arguments," she said.
This comes a day before Delhi is set vote for 70-seat assembly to decide which party of AAP, Congress and the BJP would form the government in the national capital.
