The all-rounder is currently recovering from an ankle injury
India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is currently recovering from an ankle injury and is away from national duty. Pandya suffered a horrible injury during India's ODI World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh and has been out of the Indian team ever since.
The stand-in India captain made a rare public appearance since his injury on Monday, February 12. Pandya stood alongside Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the inauguration of the Gandhinagar Premier League. Shah took to Twitter to announce the league that is aimed at promoting better physical health. Pandya was seen unveiling the trophy alongside Shah. The Board of Control for Cricket in India's honourable secretary Jay Shah was also present at the venue.
In the absence of Hardik Pandya in the Indian T20I team, Suryakumar Yadav led the side against Australia and South Africa. The batter's captaincy along with his performance in the field caught the eye. After Suryakumar twisted his ankle in the T20I series against South Africa, Rohit Sharma took charge in the Afghanistan series. Rohit returned to captaincy after taking more than a year's break in the format and immediately hit a century. Pandya was not present in the 3-match series against Afghanistan and is expected to make a comeback in the Indian Premier League 2024 season where he will lead Mumbai Indians.
