How Did Divya Dutta Prepare for the Role of Soyarabai in Chhaava?

Divya Dutta is currently enjoying the success of Bandish Bandits and is all set to welcome the new year with one of the much-anticipated projects, Chhaava. The actress will play Soyarabai in the Vicky Kaushal-starrer, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna. The actress shared that she is mesmerised by the storyline and how the filmmaker Laxman Utkar picturised her character and the scenes.

In an interview with Mid-day, Divya Dutta stated she was delighted to be a part of it and the scenes that Laxman Utekar shot gave her “goosebumps.” Chhaava revolves around the life of the Maratha ruler, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The actress mentioned while she was happy to be a part of the historical drama that commemorates the Maratha king’s reign, she wondered how they imagined her in the role of Soyarabai, Chhatrapati Sambhaji’s stepmother, who conspired against him. She noted, “When he narrated the role, I told him I haven’t done something like this before. It was starkly different in terms of the look and the character. The fact that you dress up a certain way and go to your palace, takes you to another world.”

When asked about her experience of sharing screen space with Vicky Kaushal. Divya Dutta stated she was quite impressed by the actor’s work and praised him saying, “Vicky is adorable. He would not go until he had given cues to his co-stars. I would ask him to go and he’d refuse. We would talk in Punjabi; such camaraderie is important. He is one of the finest actors we have. Give him any role and he will belong in it. Despite being an excellent actor, there is so much modesty and humility in him.” Vicky plays Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in the film. The teaser, released in August, revealed the actor in a previously unseen avatar.

Divya, who began her acting career in 1994 with the film Ishq Mein Jeena Ishq Mein Marna, has been in many successful films, television shows and web series. She has also starred in Malayalam, Punjabi and Nepali films, apart from Bollywood.
