Actress Dolphin Dubey talks about celebrating Makar Sankranti and recalls her childhood memories. She was last seen in the TV show Suhaagan. This festival has deep roots in ancient Indian traditions. It is associated with agricultural cycles and the harvest season.
She said, "Makar Sankranti is associated with agricultural cycles and the harvest season, reflecting the profound connection between humans and the natural world. It heralds the start of longer days, and the Sun moves northward, which is why this period is known as Uttarayan and is considered very auspicious. I was born in a Muslim family, but as my mother belongs to a Hindu family we celebrated all the festivals since childhood."
She continued, "I was always taught by my mother that the significance of Makar Sankranti extends beyond its astronomical and mythological aspects. It symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and hope over despair. The festival is a time for renewal, gratitude, and the celebration of life's bounties."
She added, "I have profound memories of Makar Sankranti. From feasting and sharing, I remember we used to gather to enjoy traditional delicacies of sesame seeds, coconut and jaggery sweets, flying kites and enjoy. I'm separated now, but married in a Brahmin family, hence I always also celebrated this festival with my in-laws. We used to offer prayers to the Sun god, Surya on this day. And even today my Ex comes with sweets, kites and gifts to celebrate with my daughter, Kamakshi."
The actress concluded by extending her greetings. She shared, "Makar Sankranti is a vibrant celebration of life, unity, and the blessings of nature. It fosters a sense of community and reinforces the values of gratitude, compassion, and joy. May the festival of Makar Sankranti fill our life with warmth, happiness, and positivity. Happy Makar Sankranti."
