Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav paid Tilak Varma the ultimate compliment after the youngster continued his golden run of form in the second T20I against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday (January 25).

After Suryakumar won the toss and chose to bowl first at Chepauk, England put up a score of 165 on the board. Skipper Jos Buttler (45) was once again their top-scorer while Brydon Carse justified his selection with an important cameo of 31 runs in just 17 balls.

Carse troubled India's batting unit with a fine spell of fast bowling as the Men in Blue were reduced 78-5. Walking out to bat at number three, Tilak held his nerve and ensured that India got home in a last-over thriller with an unbeaten knock of 72 in 55 balls.

Suryakumar was all praise for Tilak after the match and claimed that his approach was a learning for every player in the team.

"A little bit of relief. The way the game was going, we felt 160 was good, but the way they bowled, it was good that the game went down to the wire. Very happy with the way Tilak batted, something to learn for everyone. It's good to see someone take responsibility. He (Bishnoi) will be on my head for a few more days now (chuckles). Ravi Bishnoi is putting hard work in the nets; he wants to contribute with the bat. He did that tonight. Arshdeep also batted well," said Suryakumar in the post-match interaction.

Ever since requesting Suryakumar to bat at number three ahead of the third t20I against South Africa, the 22-year-old has been in red-hot form. Tilak has set the world record for the most runs without being dismissed. In his last four innings, the left-handed batter has made 318 runs with two centuries and one half-century.
