India's central bank - the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) - received a bomb threat, targeting its head office in commercial capital Mumbai. The threat email, written in Russian language and sent on the official ID of RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, claimed that an improvised explosive device (IED) has been planted in its building which would be activated remotely within five days, police said on Friday.

The bomb threat message was sent to the RBI Governor's official email address on Thursday after which the authorities alerted the Mumbai Police, who swiftly registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and began an investigation.

The sender is yet to be unidentified, a report by PTI quoted a police official as saying.

Cops searched the RBI premises in south Mumbai and nothing suspicious was found till the time of filing this report.

According to Zone 1 DCP, Mumbai Police, “A threatening email was received on the official website of Reserve Bank of India. The email, in the Russian language, warned of plans to blow up the bank. A case has been registered against unknown accused at Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg (MRA Marg) police station.”

The sender of the threat email also asked the RBI Governor to join the “brotherhood movement for Ukraine”.

Back on November 16, a bomb threat was received by the RBI’s customer care number in which the caller claimed to be the "CEO of Lashkar-e-Taiba," allegedly sang a song before issuing the threat.

The bomb threat email to RBI was sent a few hours before at least six schools in national capital Delhi received similar mails prompting a multi-agency search of their premises.

The threatening emails claimed that “several explosives” had been planted on the school premises. The threat, reportedly sent by a group operating on the ‘dark web,’ even warned of extensive damage and casualties, claiming the bombs were powerful enough to destroy the buildings.
