Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming film Deva has faced the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) scanner ahead of its January 31 release. The action-drama, directed by Rosshan Andrrews and co-starring Pooja Hegde, underwent several edits before being granted a U/A certificate. Recent reports suggest that the film certification board has toned down a kissing scene between Pooja and Shahid.

CBFC tones down Shahid Kapoor, Pooja Hegde's lip lock scene in Deva

According to a report in ETimes, the CBFC mandated three key modifications, including trimming a steamy lip-lock scene, toning down explicit language, and addressing references to a prominent Mumbai landmark.

The kiss, originally longer, was reduced by six seconds to meet certification guidelines. Additionally, profane words and “foul gestures” were either replaced or removed entirely, affecting both dialogues and subtitles. The CBFC also sought clarification regarding a reference to Hutatma Chowk, a historical landmark in Mumbai’s Fort area. Following these edits, the film’s runtime now stands at 2 hours, 36 minutes, and 59 seconds.

Shahid's Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya also had to go through changes

This isn’t the first time Shahid Kapoor’s films have faced the CBFC’s scrutiny. In 2024, his romantic dramaTeri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya,co-starring Kriti Sanon, also had to make changes. A lovemaking scene in the movie was reduced by nine seconds to comply with certification standards before its Valentine’s Week release.
