Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy made his plans for the old city of Hyderabad clear on Tuesday, saying he wants the Musi riverbed to be “an economic growth centre and a hub of job creation”. Reddy is also the minister for municipal administration and urban development
The chief minister wants the entire stretch to attract tourists and directed the authorities to make comprehensive plans to construct bridges, commercial shopping complexes, amusement parks, hawker zones, and pathways along the Musi River in a public-private partnership mode.
At a review meeting Tuesday, he directed the officials to make the entire stretch of the Musi riverbed an economic growth centre and job creation hub. Apart from Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and ministers D Sridhar Babu and C D Raja Narasimha, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi and others attended the meeting.
The river, which originates about 100 km away from Hyderabad, flows through the city for about 50 km, before joining Krishna River. It also demarcates the old city from the rest of Hyderabad. The Musi riverfront development was proposed by previous governments and Reddy, after being sworn in as the CM and minister in charge of the urban development portfolio, wasted no time taking stock of the functioning of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation
