Indian airline companies are facing scrutiny for their services, with increasing complaints about food quality and hygiene. IndiGo, a prominent airline, has repeatedly come under fire for its service standards. In a recent incident, the airline allocated four separate seats to a family travelling with young children, resulting in the children being seated apart from their parents. The passenger raised the issue on social media, prompting a public response from the airline.
In his tweet, Akshay Baheti stated that he received four boarding passes for seats on distant rows on his journey from Chennai to Mumbai. His post caught the attention of the airline, prompting them to address the situation. The user wrote, “I, my wife, and our 8 and 3-year-old kids, travelling on IndiGo on the same PNR, allotted 4 separate seats. We two will manage, but not sure about those sitting next to the kids. IndiGo is indeed unique. Don’t think any other airline allots separate seats to 3-year-olds.” Along with the post, he also shared an image of the four boarding passes.
Reacting to this complaint, IndiGo Airlines explained that the company never intended to split a family travelling together by giving separate row seats. They explained that Akshay Baheti had completed his check-in at the airport, where seat assignments are based on availability at the time. Additionally, they recommended that their customers pre-book their preferred seats online to avoid such issues.IndiGo’s response triggered an online debate, with users highlighting the additional cost associated with pre-booking seats. One user expressed frustration, labelling it as a scam and accusing the airline of prioritising profits over customer satisfaction. A user stated, “It’s a scam..no ones interested in correcting it..no one will..extortion rackets all around the country..all for money in the name of LCC.. bear it.. you cant do anything.. pay up before hand select seats..” while another user pointed out, “Cheap way of making money. IndiGo mantra is “anyway money is welcome”.. how can u be heartless to separate kids from parents…. U should allot seats complimentary.”An individual shared, “Worst experiences with IndiGo while doing prior check in, the airline will make sure to force you pay for the seats as the only strata available for free of cost are middle ones. So technically the whole family will again sit separately!”
