New Year seems to be packed with a host of exciting projects for Raima Sen, as she explores layered characters on both OTT platforms and the big screen. Drama series Kolonko’s recent teaser drop has only added to the anticipation as fans look forward to her breathing life into the character of Chaiti, a married woman dealing with the complexities of modern relationships. The show also features national award winning actor Ritwik Chakraborty. In a candid chat with us, Raima talks to us about what she thinks about relationships in the age of social media, how she ushered in 2024 and why OTT and films will continue co-existing in their own glory
Do you think relationships are increasingly becoming more complex every day?
I think it’s happening because there’s always one person in the relationship who is visualising and expecting a lot from the relationship, while the other person is clueless about what the other person is thinking. I think, in an era where people are deeply influenced by social media, the key to a happy relationship is keeping it simple and transparent. It’s important for partners to be truthful and transparent with each other.
What did your New Year celebrations look like? Do you have any resolutions?
This was the first time in many years that I spent the New Year’s eve in Kolkata, with my family around. It was all about hearty conversations and an intimate get-together at my home with my parents, sister and her side of the family around.
As far as resolutions are concerned, I stopped making any resolutions post college as I see no point in making resolutions that won’t last
You’ve been doing a lot of OTT projects ever since the success of Hello!, your first web series. How do you think OTT has revolutionised content viewership?
There’s so much happening on OTT platforms these days, it’s only when a film is very well talked about that people go and watch it in a cinema hall. OTT provides viewers with a choice, and convenience. However, that being said, I think the theatrical film viewing experience will always have its own larger than life charm.
What’s next?
After the Vaccine War, I have a few very interesting films coming up, primarily in Hindi. In Bengali, I have Pratim Dasgupta’s investigative thriller Chaalchitro down the pipeline, along with Hawa Bodol 2
