Road Safety: How Can We Prevent Tragic Accidents Like the Maharashtra Bus Crash?

AMaharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus overturned on the Kohmara State Highway in Gondia district on Friday, killing nine people and injuring several others.

The accident occurred around noon near Khajri village when the bus, travelling from Nagpur to Gondia with 35 passengers on board, swerved to avoid a motorcycle that suddenly appeared on the road. The sudden manoeuvre caused the speeding bus to overturn.

Local authorities and emergency services were immediately alerted. The injured passengers were rushed to a nearby government hospital for treatment.

The bus driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.

Efforts to clear the site and remove the overturned bus using a crane are ongoing.
