The Supreme Court Wednesday rejected to urgently list Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea seeking a 7-day extension of his interim bail. As such, the AAP supremo has to go back to Tihar Jail on June 2.
The SC registry refused to accept the application saying that since the Chief Minister was given liberty to move trial court for regular bail, the plea is not maintainable. Kejriwal had got interim bail from Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta on May 10 and was asked to surrender to Tihar jail on June 2. The bench had on May 17 reserved verdict on his challenge to the validity of his arrest by ED in a PMLA case linked to liquor scam.
Refusing to accept application, SC said that since the verdict is already reserved on challenge to arrest, Kejriwal's plea for extension of interim bail has no relation to main petition.
AAP, moving the petition, had said that Kejriwal had lost 7 kg after his arrest and the ketone levels in his body are very high. “These may be symptoms of some serious disease. Max Hospital doctors examined him. He needs to undergo a PET-CT scan and many other tests. He has sought 7 days to get the investigations done,” said the AAP.
On May 10, a Supreme Court bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta granted Kejriwal interim bail until June 1 to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections. As per the order, Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam case, has to surrender on June 2.
