Should Politicians Use Their Power to Address Personal Insults?

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday and urged him to expunge the unparliamentary words used against Rahul and his mother, Sonia, by BJP MPs during the ongoing winter session.

During his meeting amid the Centre-Opposition stand-off in Parliament, Rahul asked the speaker to expunge unparliamentary words, especially those from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey’s statement in the House regarding him.

How Should Politicians Handle Derogatory Remarks Against Them and Their Family in the Public Eye?

The Speaker has asked the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition to write to him, mentioning the words that he felt were derogatory.

Rahul said that BJP leaders would keep bringing in allegations against the Opposition, but he and his allies only wanted the House to function. Parliament has seen little business this season amid repeated adjournments and is to end on December 20 ahead of the year-end holidays.
