Sony Xperia smartphones were once market leaders but are now surviving in selected markets only. However, Sony Xperia has maintained its iconic smartphone design and display until now. According to the latest coverage, the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 VI (Mark 6) is set to abandon its iconic taller/narrower aspect ratio of 21:9 for the more commonly used 19.5:9.
Recently, OnLeaks published high-quality renderings of the Sony Xperia 1 VI, revealing the appearance and some parameters of the future flagship smartphone. The device follows the usual design language of the series but has made adjustments to the screen ratio. The Xperia 1 VI abandons the previously adhered-to 21:9 ribbon screen design and changes the aspect ratio to 19.5:9, which is roughly the same as the Samsung Galaxy Ultra lineup’s screen ratio.
Measuring 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.4mm, the Xperia 1 VI features a 6.5-inch screen, which is 3.5mm wider than its predecessor (the Xperia 1 V measures 165 x 71 x 8.3mm). Additionally, the Xperia 1 VI ditches the series’ previous 4K resolution screen and instead reduces it to a 2K resolution.
