He defending champions seem to have found their groove at the right time as they raced past Oman to secure the win by 8 wickets as the game came to a close in the blink of an eye. The quick victory also means that their NRR is above Scotland putting them firmly in the race for a spot in the Super 8s.
Having won the toss and choosing to bowl first, the English bowlers were on the money with Jofra Archer striking early followed by Mark Wood who struck as early as his very first delivery. The two pacers shared three wickets each.
The pacers showcased their class and the Oman batters were unable to keep up with the pace as the length deliveries got the better of the batsmen and took the game away before it even got started.
But the pick of the bowlers was none other than Adil Rashid who spun his web to rattle the Oman batters. He made the right use of his variations and set up his googly at the right time to leave the batters befuddled. He finished with four wickets in the innings as Oman were all-out for just 47 runs.
Considering the low total on the board, England did not waste any time as the opening batter, Phil Salt got the ball rolling with two consecutive sixes to start things off but was dismissed prematurely.
Jos Buttler ensured that the chase was completed quickly along with a boundary or two by Bairstow as the two finished off the chase in just 3.1 overs to get their net run rate past Scotland with a game to go.
Oman’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 came to a disappointing end as they finished the tournament without a win. They came close in their opening game against Namibia but their lack of exposure against top opponents was on display and fell short in every aspect.
Scotland will be up against Australia in their final game of the group stage while England will be taking on Namibia and the ball will be on the defending champion’s court.
