Diljit Dosanjh’s recent concert in Delhi, part of his much-anticipated Dil-Luminati India Tour 2024, saw an overwhelming response from fans. Thousands flocked to Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium, excited to see the popular Punjabi singer kick off his tour. However, the event encountered numerous logistical challenges, primarily due to massive traffic congestion, delays, and crowd management issues, leaving many attendees frustrated.
As eager fans began gathering hours before the show, traffic near the stadium slowed to a crawl. Reports indicated that queues extended for several kilometers outside the venue. Many fans were seen waiting in lines as they tried to enter the concert premises. Despite arriving well in advance, the sheer volume of attendees caused unexpected delays, making it difficult for fans to enter on time. Some concertgoers shared their experiences on social media, mentioning that the traffic was so severe that it took them hours to cover relatively short distances near the stadium.
To manage the situation, more than 3,000 security personnel, including paramilitary forces, were deployed in and around the stadium. Delhi Police and other authorities made extensive arrangements to maintain law and order, but even this large-scale deployment struggled to handle the enormous crowd. Additional measures included policemen in plain clothes monitoring activities inside the stadium, and numerous CCTV cameras were installed for enhanced security. However, the overwhelming turnout and logistical challenges led to significant delays in the concert’s start, frustrating fans who had waited patiently.
Delhi Traffic Police issued advisories, recommending restricted routes and advising concertgoers to plan their journeys with road closures and diversions in mind. Traffic restrictions were in place from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM on both concert days, aiming to facilitate smooth access around JLN Stadium. Certain routes were also blocked for heavy transport vehicles to minimize congestion. Additionally, gates for entry were designated, with certain gates reserved for emergency purposes.
