DELHI: Jadavpur MP Mimi Chakraborty on Thursday handed over her resignation to Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and said she wants to quit politics. The Trinamool MP alleged that she faced a lot of obstacles in the party and accused local leaders of creating hurdles for her.
"Politics is not my cup of tea. You have to promote someone here (in politics) if you are helping someone... I had to often hear that I failed to deliver and I am not available for people. Many had pointed fingers about my attendance in the Parliament. I have conveyed everything to Didi," Mimi said.
She also said, "Besides being a politician, I also work as an actor. I have equal responsibilities. If you join politics, you are criticized whether you work or not. I spoke with Mamata Banerjee regarding the issues I had. I wanted to tell her about my resignation from a party that gave me an opportunity to go ahead. I had also told her in 2022 about my resignation from the post of an MP. She had rejected it at that time. I will complete further process after whatever she says."
The Trinamool MP said she will hand over her resignation to Lok Sabha Speaker once Mamata accepts it. She denied all charges levelled against her by party leaders.
"I am number one in spending MPLADS fund. I always stood by the people during Amphan and floods. I am a peace loving person and don't want to fight. I am known as a film personality and don't want to be in politics," Mimi said.
"I never uttered any words against anyone. I am a peace loving person and don't want to fight," she added.
The Trinamool MP denied that she was using her resignation as pressure tactics. "People might think I am trying to ensure my seat as MP, but it us not true. I don't want to be a candidate again," Mimi said.
According to sources, Mimi had already quit two parliamentary standing committees and sent her resignations to TMC Lok Sabha leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay.
