Tirupati Stampede: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of six people in the stampede that occurred near Vishnu Nivasam in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati. He also assured people all help possible.
In a social media post on X, the Prime Minister’s Office wrote, “Pained by the stampede in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover soon. The AP Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected: PM @narendramodi.”
The tragedy that occurred on Wednesday night during the distribution of tokens for Vaikuntha Dwara Sarvadarshanam, a special ‘darshan’ for devotees for 10 days, starting Friday, has claimed six lives and left at least 40 people injured. One of the deceased, identified as Mallika, is reportedly from Tamil Nadu.
The stampede occurred due to a huge surge of devotees trying to obtain tokens. The injured people are being treated at the Sri Venkateswara Ramnarayan Ruia Government General Hospital in Tirupati.
