Several people are feared dead after a bus carrying 42 passengers lost control and fell into a gorge near Marchula in Uttarakhand’s Almora on Monday morning.
Rescue agencies have reached the spot and started the rescue operation. According to officials, a 42-seater bus was on its way to Ramnagar from Kirath of Nainidanda when it went out of control and fell into the ditch near Marchula Band. As per initial reports, the accident was so severe that many people were thrown out of the bus and fell on the other side.
Upon receiving news of the accident, five ambulances, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Almora police, arrived at the location to aid in relief and rescue efforts. Instructions have also been issued to airlift critically injured passengers if necessary.
As per information provided by the state government, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke to the Secretary of Disaster Management, Commissioner of Kumaon Division, and DM of Almora over the phone and gave instructions to speed up the rescue and relief work. Along with SDRF, an NDRF team has also reached the spot.
“Very sad news has been received about the casualties of passengers in the unfortunate bus accident that took place in Marchula of Almora district. The district administration has been instructed to conduct relief and rescue operations swiftly. The local administration and SDRF teams at the site of the incident are working swiftly to evacuate the injured and take them to the nearest health centre for treatment. Instructions have also been given to airlift the seriously injured passengers if required,” Dhami said in a post on X.
