What are the legal implications of filing a complaint for derogatory remarks in the workplace?

"Is it Legal to File a Complaint for Derogatory Remarks in the Business World?"

Malayalam actress Honey Rose has filed a police complaint against renowned businessman Boby Chemmanur, alleging derogatory remarks made against her. The ‘Monster’ actress disclosed the complaint on Tuesday, revealing that the incident occurred four months ago and had deeply disturbed her family.

“This unpleasant experience happened months ago, but my family and I have been greatly affected by it. Today, I officially registered a complaint,” said Honey Rose after approaching the police. Honey Rose’s latest Instagram post read, "Bobby Chemmanur, I have filed a police complaint at the Ernakulam Central Police Station against you for the derogatory remarks you made about me. A similar case will be filed against others who share the same mentality. While you may rely on the power of your wealth, I will place my trust in the strength of Indian law."

The actress also addressed the issue on her social media account, expressing her resolve to proceed with legal action not just against Chemmanur but also his close associates involved in the matter.

Two days prior, Honey Rose had taken to social media to share her ordeal, refraining from naming the individual responsible. However, her revelations led to a surge in cyberattacks against her, prompting swift action by authorities. Her post read, "I have not worn any attire prohibited by Indian law. I am not responsible for the rules you have created based on your own whims. As an actress, it is my duty to attend inaugural functions like these. I have no objections to people creatively trolling my dressing style, but I believe there should be reasonable limits to such criticism. That being said, I will take action against anyone whose comments about me include vulgar language. Once again, I am making it clear—Honey Rose is declaring a war against those who target women facing situations similar to mine."

The police have since arrested approximately 24 individuals in connection with the online harassment. According to Indian Express, more arrests will happen soon as the Kerala police are investigating the obscene comments that were shared against the actress. Reportedly a case is registered under Honey Rose’s complaint and the police have also identified over 20 persons who will be questioned and later their arrest will be recorded.
