What Makes Caitlin Clark and Other Female Athletes Stand Out in Nike's First Super Bowl Commercial Since 1998?

Caitlin Clark has been having one of her best times currently, after winning the Rookie of the Year and featuring as Time's Athlete of the Year, the young sensation now has starred in a NIKE advertisement along with other female athletes.

This marked Nike’s first Super Bowl ad since 1998, making it a significant moment for the brand and a bold statement in support of women in sports.  

Nike’s official X (formerly Twitter) account introduced their latest Super Bowl ad with a powerful statement: "There's one guarantee in sport. You'll be told you can't do it. So do it anyway. You can't win. So Win."     
The campaign began with a striking black-and-white commercial narrated by Grammy-winning artist Doechii. Her voiceover addressed the challenges and double standards female athletes often face: "You can't be demanding. You can't put yourself first. You can't be relentless. So be relentless."     

 Celebrating Female Athletes  

The ad showcased nine exceptional female athletes, each celebrated for their groundbreaking achievements. Nike highlighted their accomplishments on X, stating, "Icons don't need intros, but we'll remind you anyway."

Caitlin Clark, former Iowa Hawkeye guard and current Indiana Fever player, who recently had her 22 jersey retired.  

- Sha'Carri Richardson, the Olympic sprinter known for her speed and confidence.  

- Jordan Chiles, the accomplished gymnast who has excelled on the global stage.  

- Juju Watkins, a rising star in USC basketball.  

- A'ja Wilson, a dominant player in the WNBA.  

- Alexia Putellas, the Spanish soccer icon.  

- Sabrina Ionescu, the only NCAA athlete—male or female—to achieve 2,000 points, 1,000 assists, and 1,000 rebounds.  

- Sophia Smith, a standout in the NWSL.  

- Aryna Sabalenka, the tennis star making waves in her sport.

The ad struck a chord with fans, who took to social media to share their enthusiasm. One fan expressed admiration for Caitlin Clark, saying, "I just love her so much." Another highlighted Sabrina Ionescu’s historic achievements, with Nike noting, "Only athlete to ever do it in NCAA history. Male or female." The commercial received widespread acclaim from industry experts. AdWeek called it "a triumph," and advertising and sports executives praised Nike’s approach.  

- Deutch’s CCO remarked, "It's great [to] see Nike back in the mix on Super Bowl where they belong, and using the stage to highlight and hero female athletes."  - Robert Zitzmann, managing director and partner of Jung von Matt Sports, added, "Nike just went back to their winning ways again: promoting female athletes and women's sports with a raw, powerful, and bold tone."     

 A Bold Statement for Women in Sports  

Nike’s “So Win” campaign not only marked their return to Super Bowl advertising but also reinforced their commitment to empowering female athletes. By celebrating their resilience and achievements, Nike delivered a powerful message: no matter the obstacles, these women are redefining what it means to win.  

The ad’s impact extended beyond the screen, sparking conversations about equality in sports and inspiring a new generation to pursue their dreams relentlessly. As Nike’s campaign reminds us, when told you can’t win, the only response is to "So Win."
