What safety measures can be taken to prevent borewell accidents for children in rural areas?

A 10-year-old boy fell into a borewell in Madhya Pradesh's Guna district on Saturday evening (December 28), triggering a massive rescue operation involving multiple teams.

The boy is trapped at a depth of approximately 39 feet, and efforts to rescue him have been ongoing since Saturday night. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local police have been deployed at the site.

Speaking about the operation, Guna Collector Satyendra Singh told ANI, "The rescue teams have dug a parallel pit up to 40 feet and are continuing their efforts to save the boy. Oxygen support is being provided continuously to ensure the child's safety."

"We are working relentlessly with teams from SDRF, NDRF, and local authorities to ensure a safe rescue," added the Collector.

Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr Rajkumar also commented on the situation, saying, "The rescue operation has been underway since last night. We are trying to bring the child out as soon as possible. Oxygen is being supplied continuously to keep him stable."

A team of doctors is also present at the site.
